Your water service line is the pipe that carries water from the city main into your home or building. It runs underground, it is usually decades old, and when it fails it fails slowly: a drop in pressure, a soft or green patch in the yard, a water meter that keeps spinning when everything is off, discolored water, or the sound of running water with no fixture on. In older Chicagoland homes these lines are often galvanized steel or undersized copper that has reached the end of its life.

The job starts with diagnosis. We confirm the leak is in the service line and not in-house plumbing, locate it, and figure out whether a spot repair or a full replacement is the right call. A single clean break can sometimes be repaired. A line that is corroded end to end, or too small for the house, should be replaced — a patch on a failing line just moves the next leak a few feet down.

A replacement follows a set sequence: inspection and locate, calling in utility locates (JULIE) so nothing else underground gets hit, pulling the municipal permit, excavating or directional-boring from the main to the house, installing new properly sized pipe with a fresh shutoff, pressure testing, passing the municipal inspection, and restoring the trench.
